COVID-19 Restraints Force FAO to Launch Radio Training Programs in Somalia

The Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO) has launched radio training programs in Somalia as part of the measures imposed to curb spread of COVID-19.

FAO said that it would be offering training on radio to avoid spreading or exposing staff and trainees to the deadly pandemic.

On Tuesday September 15, FAO announced that its radio programs are made possible with funding from various organizations.

Some of the organizations funding it include USAID’s Bureau for Humanitarian Assistance and Swedish International Development Cooperation Agency (SIDA).

Germany’s BMZ Bund has also released funds to FAO to prepare the radio training programs.

Ezana Kassa, FAO’s Emergency Coordinator in Somalia, said that radio is the perfect platform for training uneducated population in rural communities.

Further, Kassa hailed the wide reach of radio that makes it easier for FAO to listen to farmers, fisher folks, and pastoralists from all parts of Somalia.
