Governor Ali Jeyte Osman has announced that 13 people have died of suspected cases of COVID-19 in Hiran.
Osman reported that the deaths occurred in the last 72 hours.
Hiran’s Governor Osman said that the deaths took place in El Jalle and Beledweyne locations after the deceased developed COVID-19 symptoms.
Governor Osman announced the deaths during a press briefing held in Hiran yesterday when he also called upon the federal government’s Ministry of Health to assist the region.
He said that more deaths are likely to follow unless the government intervenes.
“We appeal for more medical supplies and equipment from the Ministry of Health to help us curtail the spread of COVID-19 in the region,” Governor Osman said.
Local health officials and those from the Federal Government of Somalia are yet to comment on these alleged COVID-19 deaths.
