Washington, D.C. US – United States Senator Ted Cruz has reaffirmed Washington’s support for Somalia’s sovereignty and long-term stability, following his meeting with the East African’s State Minister for Foreign Affairs, Ali Omar.
Speaking after the discussions, Sen. Cruz emphasized that U.S. policy is not designed to undermine Somalia but instead to strengthen its institutions and reinforce the country’s unity. He noted that a secure and stable Somalia is central not only to the Horn of Africa but also to wider regional peace and global trade interests.
“The United States values its partnership with Somalia. Our goal is to work together to counter shared threats and create an environment where Somalia can thrive politically and economically,” Cruz stated.
Omar welcomed the remarks, stressing that Somalia remains committed to deepening its relations with the United States. He underlined that sustained cooperation in counterterrorism, economic growth, and governance reforms will be key to ensuring Somalia’s resilience against extremist groups and external pressures.
The meeting comes at a time when Somalia is intensifying diplomatic outreach to consolidate international backing for its security and development agenda. Analysts say Washington’s clear message of support is likely to boost confidence in Mogadishu as it pursues reforms and counters threats from militant groups.
Both sides agreed to continue engaging on strategic priorities, with a shared vision of a stable, united Somalia contributing to regional and global stability.
