The Czech Republic and Sweden have donated 1.6 million COVID-19 vaccines to Somalia.
Somalia received the 1,645,600 doses of the Johnson & Johnson vaccines from the Czech Republic and Sweden on August 27.
Dr. Ali Haji Adam Abubakar received the vaccines on behalf of the Somali government.
Dr. Abubakar is the new Minister of Health and Human Services in the Federal Government of Somalia (FGS).
While receiving the vaccines, Dr. Abubakar expressed gratitude to the two European nations for the donation, which will save the lives of the people of Somalia.
He said that the vaccines have arrived at the perfect time.
Currently, Somalia is experiencing severe drought and massive displacement of people.
Therefore, these conditions are likely to make people all over the country susceptible to all types of diseases.
Per Lindgarde and Dr. Mamunur Rahman Malik were at the handing-over ceremony.
Lindgarde is the Swedish Ambassador to Somalia while Dr. Malik is the World Health Organization (WHO) Representative to Somalia.
