Several units of the United States-specially trained Danab Special Forces returned to Kismayo on Tuesday, December 8.
The units were making their first journey back to Kismayo at the conclusion of their training in Baledogle Airstrip, Lower Shabelle.
Security analysts are evaluating the forces’ capability to function as they have done without the help of United States military.
The US military is expected to pull out its troops from the Horn of African nation following a recent pledge by outgoing President Donald Trump.
President Trump first made this pledge in 2016 while campaigning for the US presidential elections.
He repeated the same sentiments recently while campaigning for reelection ahead of the November 2020 presidential polls.
Danab Special Forces have worked closely with the US African Command (AFRICOM) to fight Al-Shabaab and other extremists in Somalia.
