Mogadishu – Somalia’s Ministry of Defense said that elite Danab commandos, trained by the United States, conducted a successful air-supported operation against Al-Shabaab militants in Maqooqaha.
The operation took place at the location that is around 100 kilometers northwest of Kismayo in the Lower Juba region.
Backed by international partners, the precision strike targeted a key terrorist command center. The ministry reported that at least 25 Al-Shabaab fighters were killed and the site sustained significant damage.
This operation, which was on Wednesday, is part of intensified efforts by Somali forces and allies to dismantle Al-Shabaab’s operational capacity in southern Somalia.
