Danab Special Forces, a unit comprising highly skilled US-trained soldiers, has launched a massive manhunt for extremists in Shabelle and Hiraan.
The manhunt was set in motion on Tuesday, November 17.
Mohamed Suleiman, the Commander of the Fourth Danab Commandos, confirmed that the ongoing operation kicked off on Tuesday.
He said that the purpose of the operation is to arrest and present in court all known Al-Shabaab extremists in the region.
Suleiman said that the operation would continue until the Danab forces destroy all Al-Shabaab bases in Shabelle and Hiraan.
He announced that the special forces have already captured several people with links to Al-Shabaab.
Among these are Hassan Yusuf Ali, the Regional Finance Chief of Al-Shabaab.
Other top Al-Shabaab operatives arrested in the ongoing operation include Ali Abdulle Jilaw and Abdullahi Ishaq Hussein.
Jilaw serves as the Chief of the El’ade Women’s Education while Hussein is in charge of collecting taxes for the Al-Qaeda linked group in the region.
