A Danish non-governmental organization (NGO) has announced plans to set up a fish production plant in Somaliland.
Christian Friis Bach, a former Minister of Development Cooperation in Denmark, made the announcement this week.
Bach mentioned the huge potential in Somaliland for a fish production plant.
He reiterated the country’s capacity for producing huge amounts of fish for export as a reason for setting up the facility.
Friis said the plant would be a joint project with FairFishing, the Danish NGO.
The Dane made this announcement after holding a meeting with President Muse Bihi Abdi of Somaliland in Hargeisa.
Somaliland’s Minister of Fisheries, Minister of Planning, and Ministry of Investment also attended the meeting between Friis, FairFishing, and President Bihi.
Further, Friis mentioned that a firm known as IFU would be funding the project.
IFU has already financed and invested similar projects in over 100 countries all over the world to the tune of $3 million.
