Mogadishu, Somalia – The federal Ministry of Defence has intensified its collaboration with the Federal Parliament in efforts to advance national security priorities and accelerate the fight against terrorism.
On Saturday, Defence Minister Ahmed Moallim Fiqi and State Minister Omar Ali Abdi held a high-level meeting at the Ministry with Senator Adan Abdinasir Mohamed, Chairman of the Upper House Defence and Security Committee.
The talks centred on strengthening coordination between the ministry and the Committee, particularly in areas of oversight, security policy implementation, and monitoring military operations. Both sides agreed that closer institutional cooperation is vital for ensuring accountability, enhancing defence effectiveness, and supporting Somalia’s ongoing campaign to liberate remaining areas still under terrorist control.
Fiqi emphasized the government’s determination to sustain momentum in the offensive against Al-Shabaab and underscored the importance of parliamentary backing in providing oversight and legitimacy to national security efforts. Senator Adan Abdinasir reiterated the Committee’s commitment to working hand in hand with the Ministry to safeguard national stability and uphold civilian confidence in the country’s security institutions.
The meeting comes at a critical time as Somalia intensifies military operations in central and southern regions, while preparing for the transition from the African Union Transition Mission in Somalia (ATMIS) to the new AUSSOM mission.
This renewed partnership between the Ministry of Defence and the Upper House Security Committee signals a stronger alignment of state institutions in the drive to restore lasting peace and stability across Somalia.
