Mogadishu, Somalia – Somalia’s Deputy Minister of Health, Dr. Mohamed Hassan Bulaale, has commended the indispensable role women continue to play in the country’s development, emphasizing their contributions across key sectors including healthcare, national defense, and democratic participation.
Speaking during a high-level forum focused on inclusive governance and national recovery, Dr. Bulaale highlighted the resilience, leadership, and service of Somali women in advancing the country’s progress despite persistent challenges.
“From our hospitals to our military units and now in preparation for upcoming elections, Somali women are proving to be a cornerstone of our national revival. Their sacrifices and efforts are not only valuable—they are essential to the vision of a stronger, united Somalia,” said Dr. Bulaale.
He acknowledged the pivotal role of women health professionals during crises, including their frontline service in combating outbreaks and supporting maternal and child health.
Dr. Bulaale also pointed to the growing presence of women in defense and security roles, where they contribute to both operational success and community trust-building.
Looking ahead to the national elections, the Deputy Minister called for increased support for women’s political participation and representation.
“A truly democratic Somalia must reflect the voices of all its people—especially women, who make up more than half of the population,” said the deputy minister.
Dr. Bulaale urged government institutions, civil society, and development partners to invest in empowering Somali women through education, economic opportunities, and leadership training, reaffirming the Ministry of Health’s commitment to gender equity in policy and practice.
His remarks come at a time when Somalia is taking active steps to implement inclusive reforms, strengthen state institutions, and ensure lasting peace and stability through the participation of all its citizens.
