Deputy PM Leads by Example by Obtaining Voters Card Ahead of Benadir Vote

Mogadishu, Somalia – With preparations ongoing for the Benadir Regional Council elections set for December 25, government officials are increasing inspections at voter registration centers, urging citizens to obtain their voter cards and take part in selecting their representatives.

On Friday, Somalia’s Deputy Prime Minister Salah Ahmed Jama collected his voter registration card from the National Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (NIEBC), as Mogadishu residents anticipate strong participation in the upcoming Local Council Elections.

Deputy Prime Minister Jama, who registered earlier in Hodan District, retrieved his voter card there in the morning. He praised NIEBC for their efficient and transparent operations.

“This represents a historic milestone allowing Somalis, after 56 years, to determine their own destiny. Selecting a representative who voices your concerns makes it simpler to demand accountability from leaders,” stated the Deputy Prime Minister.

He reiterated the DanQaran government’s dedication to returning authority to the citizens, characterizing the local council elections in the capital as an essential advancement for democracy and civic engagement.

In a separate development, the Deputy Prime Minister met with community members in Mogadishu on Thursday evening, motivating people to register, obtain their voter cards, and engage fully in the upcoming elections.

The Benadir Regional Council elections are poised to constitute a significant turning point, providing Mogadishu residents with a much-awaited chance to directly choose their local representatives following many years without such democratic procedures.
