Deputy PM of Somalia to Co-Chair a High-Level Panel on Social Protection in London

London – Somalia’s Deputy Prime Minister, Salah Ahmed Jama, is set to co-chair a newly launched High-Level Panel on Social Protection in Fragile Settings, convening this week in London.

The initiative brings together an international coalition of leaders, practitioners, and policymakers dedicated to strengthening social protection systems in contexts affected by conflict, fragility, and humanitarian crises.

The panel, jointly led by Jama and other prominent global figures, aims to address critical gaps in social safety nets and explore sustainable models for delivering protection and support to vulnerable populations in unstable environments.

It will focus on practical strategies for integrating humanitarian assistance with long-term development objectives, ensuring that social protection is inclusive, adaptive, and resilient.

“The Somali experience underscores the urgency of building robust systems that can withstand shocks and promote recovery,” said Deputy Prime Minister Jama.

This initiative is supported by key international organizations and development partners who see social protection as a cornerstone of peacebuilding, economic recovery, and human dignity in fragile settings.

The panel will produce a series of recommendations and a global framework for action, to be shared at major international forums in late 2025, including the World Bank and UN General Assembly sessions.

Somalia’s leadership role in this forum reflects its growing commitment to inclusive governance and its ongoing efforts to rebuild state institutions that serve all citizens.
