A town in Somalia is on the verge of choking after experiencing dire humanitarian crisis that threatens the existence of its people.
Wajid town, which is Bakol region, has witnessed the deaths of 432 children due to hunger and other chronic diseases.
A commissioner for the town, Mohamed Joseph, says the youngsters died because of inability to access food, water, and medicine.
He added that the situation was worsened by the presence of Al-Shabaab, who have laid siege on the town for the last six years.
According to Mohamed, Al-Shabaab extremists blocked the delivery of food supplies to the town. Consequently, children and elderly people went for months without basic food supplies.
Although African Union Mission in Somalia (AMISOM) and Somali National Army (SNA) troops pushed the extremists out of the town, the situation remains untenable for the vulnerable.
