Abdi Hassan Mohamed, Somalia’s Police Commissioner, has fired a district police chief following the senseless killing of two civilians in his area of jurisdiction.
PC Mohamed, who is also known as Hijar, fired Najib Arab, who is the Chief of Boondheere District Police.
The decision to fire Arab came after reports that two civilians were killed in the area. Those two deaths caused violent protests in the Mogadishu on Sunday.
Reports indicate that the two civilians were shot by a police officer.
The officer shot the two civilians who were protesting the recent decision by the Federal Government of Somalia to extend the curfew hours.
Somalia has witnessed a surge in the number of COVID-19 cases; hence the decision by the government to institute several measures, including curfew, to curb the spread of the disease.
PC Mohamed said that Arab is to leave office with immediate effect as his replacement is sought to keep the region safe.
