Djibouti and ATMIS Hail Somalia’s Election to UN Security Council

Djibouti joined the African Union Transition Mission in Somalia (ATMIS) in hailing the election of Somalia as a non-permanent member of the United Nations Security Council (UNSC).

Somalia was elected overwhelmingly in a historic vote carried out this week.

It will serve in the UNSC for two years from 2025 to 2026.

In its statement, ATMIS called Somalia’s election a clear demonstration of the huge strides the East African nation has made in governance.

It also expressed hope that the move would “embolden” Somalia to find ways of securing the country and driving its people toward prosperity.
