Djibouti has issued a call for dialogue between Somalia and Ethiopia.
Currently, Djiboutian President Ismail Omar Guelleh is the President of the Intergovernmental Authority on Development (IGAD).
While issuing the call for dialogue on Monday, Djibouti also called for a preservation and protection of the sovereignty of each member state.
Djibouti issued this statement following last week’s agreement between Somaliland and Ethiopia.
In the deal, Ethiopia agreed to recognize Somaliland as an independent state. On its part, Ethiopia would get direct access to and control of an important seaport in Somaliland.
Somalia has rubbished the deal.
IGAD urged Ethiopia to respect Somalia’s territorial integrity as well as sovereignty and unity.
