Djibouti’s Fact-Finding Team off to Somalia-Kenya Border

A fact-finding mission from Djibouti has traveled to the border between Somalia and Kenya in the face of growing diplomatic differences between the two nations.

The Djibouti team traveled to the border to assess the situation amid claims that Kenya Defense Forces (KDF) has mobilized a militia force in the region.

Several sources confirmed that KDF is also arming a local militia to carry out an attack against the local bases of Somali National Army (SNA).

Gedo region has been the scene of increasing differences pitting SNA troops on one side and the KDF plus Jubbaland regional forces on the other.

Mahmud Ali Yusuf, Djibouti’s Minister of Foreign Affairs, confirmed to reporters that the fact-finding team comprises senior military officers and diplomats.

While speaking to the media, Yusuf also stated that the team departed for Mandera (Kenya) and Beled-Hawo (Somalia) on Friday, December 25.
