Somali police have been instructed to cease detaining individuals who have not been convicted of a crime.
The Minister of Family Affairs and Human Rights Development Bashir Mohamed Jama said this on Tuesday when he visited the headquarters of the Criminal Investigation Department (CID).
During his visit to the CID headquarters in Mogadishu, Jama instructed them to avoid detaining those who have not been sentenced either.
This directive is likely part of a broader effort to uphold the rule of law and human rights, emphasizing the importance of due process and fair treatment within the criminal justice system.
The move aims to prevent unlawful detention and ensure that only those who have been found guilty through proper judicial processes are held in custody.
