DP World and UNICEF Announce Berbera Port as a COVID-19 Vaccine Distribution Point

DP World and United Nations Children’s Emergency Fund (UNICEF) have announced Berbera Port as a distribution point for the COVID-19 vaccine.

Somaliland’s Port of Berbera is to be one of the distribution points for landlocked countries in the East and Central Africa region.

The announcement followed reports that DP World and UNICEF are to embark on wide-ranging partnerships to enhance the distribution of the vaccine globally.

The DP World-UNICEF partnership is the largest by the UN agency with any commercial enterprise anywhere in the world.

Through the partnership, UNICEF hopes to distribute part of the 2 billion doses of the vaccine due to arrive in the Horn of Africa region soon.

DP World is a global leader in end-to-end supply logistics.

The announcement of Port of Berbera as a distribution point was made after UNICEF and DP World signed their agreement on January 28.

Henrietta Fore, UNICEF’s Executive Director, signed the agreement on behalf of the UN agency.

Sultan Ahmed bin Sulayem, the Group Chairman and the Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of DP World, signed it on behalf of the United Arab Emirates (UAE) firm.

The government of Somaliland appointed DP World to manage the Port of Berbera.
