On Tuesday August 18, DP World announced that its engineers and technical staff had completed the 400-meter expansion of Berbera Port in Somaliland.
The port is undergoing massive reconstruction to improve it to world-class standards.
DP World won the tender to rebuild different aspects of the port. The first part involved a 400-meter expansion project.
Once operational, the port would go a long way towards solving some of the numerous trade issues the country has struggled with.
Furthermore, the port would be able to handle more than 500,000 twenty-foot equivalent units (TEUs) each year.
Additionally, reports indicate that Berbera Port would strengthen Somaliland’s pursuit of becoming a major regional trade hub that services clients in the entire Horn of Africa region.
