Five Al-Shabaab militants have been killed in a drone attack that the US Africa Command (AFRICOM) carried out in Bush Madina on Friday, the United States military announced.
Reports indicate that the attack was the second of its kind in the town. It came hot on the heels of a previous one that killed three other militants near the town.
The latest airstrike is the 33rd in 2020 and sets a new record on the fight the United States has carried out against terrorism in the world.
Today, the United States has carried out more airstrikes against Al-Shabaab in Somalia than it ever did in both Syria and Iraq.
In its statement, AFRICOM said, “Our initial assessment shows our airstrike killed five terrorists and no civilians were either injured or killed.”
Amnesty International has voiced its displeasure at the airstrikes by claiming that the US is “opaque” and “lacks accountability” on the number of civilians succumbing to similar attacks.
AFRICOM’s Deputy Director of Operations, Marine Corps Bradford J. Gering, said the US would continue these attacks to block Al-Shabaab from carrying out its threats against civilians.
