Drought Assessment Team Reaches Kismayo to Evaluate Crisis

Kismayo – A team headed by the Somali Disaster Management Agency (SoDMA) Commissioner, Mahmoud Moallim Abdulle, landed Tuesday in Kismayo, the Lower Jubba regional capital, to examine the consequences of the persistent drought impacting the nation. The mission comprises delegates from humanitarian agencies and includes the Deputy Special Representative of the UN Secretary-General for Humanitarian Affairs, Resident and Humanitarian Coordinator, George Conway. Over the course of their visit, the team plans to visit multiple internally displaced persons (IDP) settlements near Kismayo to assess living conditions and humanitarian difficulties confronting displaced communities. This evaluation occurs as Somalia continues to confront the repercussions of extended drought conditions, which have forced thousands of families from their homes and amplified humanitarian requirements in numerous areas.
