Drought Displaced 15,000 in Lower Shabelle and Bay Regions from March 13-26

A report by an international organization shows that the ongoing drought displaced 15,000 people in different parts of Somalia in two weeks in March.

United Nations’ Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs (OCHA) published this on its latest report dated April 3, 2022.

As per the report, the 15,000 internally displaced persons (IDPs) were recorded from March 13-26.

OCHA shows that the number was a drop from the one recorded in the previous two weeks.

According to the organization, the previous two-week period had seen 42,500 IDPs created in the region.

These numbers were mostly around the Bay and Lower Shabelle region.

OCHA continues to appeal to international partners to support Somalia’s drought response efforts.
