geopoliticsToday, Mr. Said Hussein Eid, the Minister of Agriculture, together with Dr. Stephen W. Njoka, the Director General of the East African Community, signed an agreement that heralded Somali’s return to the East African Community after a 28-year absence. The country took this decision to seek the Community’s help in fighting locust invasion.
The Prime Minister’s office was the venue for the event. Members of the Agriculture Committee of the House of Representatives attended the meeting together with officials from the FAO World Food Program and those from Somalia Farmers’ Cooperatives.
Minister Said Hussein Eid said that his country is also rejoining the East African Ant-Doping Agency.
Dr. Stephen W. Njoka, the Director General of the regional anti-doping agency, welcomed Somalia’s return to the organization. He promised to deploy members of the agency to help locals who have been hit hard by this phenomenon.
Nine countries, which include Somalia, are members of the East African Anti-Locusts Organization. The grassroots anti-pest organization, which has been in operation since 1962, will help eradicate the menace that plagues several regions of Somalia.
