Somaliland’s Ministry of Education has fired its Director of Curriculum for spreading Christianity in the predominantly Muslim nation.
Director Abdilahi Yasin Derie has been relieved of his duties with immediate effect.
He was blamed for allowing the teaching of Christianity, a religion that is at polar ends with Islam, in the country’s schools.
Furthermore, the ministry has accused him of giving schools permission to proceed with lessons on Christianity.
Ahmed Mohamed Derie Torno, the country’s Minister of Education, said he took the decision after receiving complaints from heads of schools from different parts of Somaliland.
Additionally, Torno promised to take legal action against Yasin in court soon.
