Egypt and Uganda Committed to Supporting Somalia’s Sovereignty

Presidents Abdel-Fattah El-Sisi of Egypt and Yoweri Museveni of Uganda reiterated their commitment to supporting Somalia’s sovereignty and territorial integrity during Sunday’s phone call.

They discussed the importance of the African Union Support and Stabilization Mission in Somalia (AUSSOM), which is set to succeed the AU Transition Mission in Somalia (ATMIS) later this month.

This conversation follows the United Nations Security Council’s approval of AUSSOM on December 27, 2024.

The mission represents a critical phase in Somalia’s journey toward sustainable peace, stability, and self-reliance in security.

Both Egypt and Uganda have long played pivotal roles in regional peacekeeping and are poised to support the new mission’s objectives, emphasizing a united effort to ensure Somalia’s future stability.
