CAIRO, Egyptian President Abdel Fattah al-Sisi announced Friday that Egypt is making efforts to bolster stability and security in the Horn of Africa to protect the strategically important Red Sea maritime routes.
Addressing a gathering with African ministers and delegates at the second ministerial forum of the Russia–Africa Partnership, al-Sisi emphasized that the Red Sea passage is essential not only for regional but also for global security.
He mentioned that Egypt plans to actively engage in the African Union’s new operation in Somalia (AUSSOM) and is arranging the required financial resources for the initiative.
Accompanied by Foreign Minister Dr. Badr Abdelatty, African Union representatives, and regional economic stakeholders, Al-Sisi acknowledged the difficulties confronting the continent despite persistent endeavors by African nations.
“Africa’s progression continues to encounter numerous impediments, including inadequate infrastructure, limited investment, and diverse security threats,” he stated.
The president restated Egypt’s dedication to reinforcing collaboration with African countries, particularly Somalia, in counterterrorism measures through integrated strategies that enhance security, progress, and social unity.
He pointed to the contributions of Al-Azhar and the International Centre for Conflict Resolution, Peacebuilding, and Reconciliation based in Cairo to these initiatives.
