Egypt’s has expressed strong opposition to the Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) signed between Somaliland and Ethiopia.
Through its Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Egypt described the MoU as a threat to Somalia’s territorial integrity and regional stability.
Egypt has a long-standing policy of supporting Somalia’s unity and opposing any actions that might encourage the fragmentation of the country.
The warning from Egypt includes the possibility of a blockade against Somaliland if it formalizes the MoU into a full agreement.
This move would be part of Egypt’s efforts to push Somaliland back into unification with Somalia, reinforcing its commitment to maintaining Somalia’s territorial cohesion.
