Egypt Reaffirms Full Backing for Somalia’s Stability

Cairo, Egypt – Egypt has reiterated its unwavering support for Somalia’s sovereignty, stability, and security, underscoring its contributions to the African Union Support and Stabilization Mission in Somalia (AUSSOM). Cairo’s position was outlined in a statement by the Egyptian Ministry of Foreign Affairs, which emphasized that Somalia’s stability remains a cornerstone for peace across the Horn of Africa.

The ministry noted that Egypt has been an active partner in regional and international initiatives aimed at strengthening Somalia’s institutions and security capacity. Through its role in AUSSOM, Egypt has contributed both resources and expertise to help Somalia gradually assume full responsibility for national security as the mission transitions from ATMIS to its successor framework.

The statement comes at a time of heightened regional tensions and internal challenges in Somalia, where the government continues its campaign against Al-Shabaab while navigating political and reconciliation efforts. Egypt stressed that its backing goes beyond military and security cooperation, extending to capacity-building, training, and diplomatic support.

“Egypt stands firmly with Somalia as it works to uphold the rule of law, counter terrorism, and consolidate state institutions,” the ministry declared, reaffirming its opposition to any actions that might endanger Somalia’s unity or territorial integrity.

Observers say Cairo’s commitment reflects its broader strategy of supporting African stability, while also safeguarding regional security interests tied to the Red Sea and Nile Basin. For Somalia, the endorsement provides both political reassurance and practical support as it strives to consolidate fragile gains toward long-term peace and development.
