Eight Die as Somalia Confirms Record Number of New COVID-19 Cases

Eight people lost their lives to COVID-19 on the day that Somalia confirmed the highest number of new COVID-19 cases.

On February 27, the Ministry of Health recorded 304 new cases.

That number is the highest recorded from samples tested in a single day.

Over the last month, the health ministry has warned of a second wave of the virulent disease in the country.

As of today, the tally of confirmed cases stands at 6,991.

With the eight new fatalities recorded, the number of people who have lost their lives to COVID-19 is 231.

Once again, Banadir accounts for the largest percentage of the new cases with 147.

HirShabelle has 77 while Somaliland recorded 53. Fifteen cases were reported in Jubbaland while Galmudug and Southwest each had 7 and 5 cases.

Moreover, 185 of the cases were male while 119 were female.
