A massive explosion has hit Mogadishu on Saturday morning.
Reports indicate that the explosion took place behind the recently refurbished and re-launched Mogadishu Stadium.
Residents reportedly heard a loud bang early in the morning.
Immediately after, a series of shootings were then heard forcing residents in the nearby buildings to scamper off to safety.
Authorities believe the explosion, which was detonated from a suicide bomber, targeted a Somali National Army (SNA) military base at Xarada Cuuryaamiinta.
Xarada Cuuryaamiinta is a former center for people with disabilities.
Latest reports indicate that eight soldiers have been killed. Moreover, 14 other soldiers are reportedly injured and in hospital receiving medical treatment.
According to eyewitnesses and local authorities, the number of dead soldiers could be higher.
