Souef Mohamed El-Amine briefed the United Nations Security Council (UNSC) on the latest developments in Somalia.
El-Amine, the Special Representative of the Chairperson of the African Union Commission (SRCC), briefed the UNSC on Thursday.
In his address to the Security Council, El-Amine stated that Al-Shabaab remains the East African nation’s primary threat.
However, he added that there has been no resurgence of Al-Shabaab in Somalia or the rest of the region.
El-Amine informed the Security Council of the Somali government’s unwavering commitment to eliminating Al-Shabaab in the country.
“Burundi has deployed new enablers in the form of four helicopters to help the AU Transition Mission in Somalia (ATMIS),” added El-Amine.
