Souef El-Amine has confirmed that the drawdown of the African Union Transition Mission in Somalia (ATMIS) has started.
El-Amine spoke while addressing the United Nations Security Council (UNSC) session on Somalia.
He said that the drawdown of 2,000 forces from the East African nation is already under implementation in accordance with specific UNSC resolutions.
“The implementation of the drawdown adheres to UNSC Resolutions 2628 (2022) and 2670 (2022),” El-Amine added.
Ambassador El-Amine is the Special Representative of the Chairperson of the African Union Commission (SRCC) for Somalia.
