El-Amine in Nairobi for AUSSOM Mandate Talks with Burundian Ambassador to Somalia

Thursday’s meeting between Special Representative of the Chairperson of the African Union Commission (SRCC) Ambassador Souef Mohamed El-Amine and  Evelyne Habonimana, Ambassador of Burundi to Somalia, highlights the ongoing collaboration and coordination efforts under the African Union Support and Stabilization Mission in Somalia (AUSSOM).

The mission, which was previously known as AMISOM, first transitioned to ATMIS then to AUSSOM, as from January 1 , 2025.

The discussions, which were held in Nairobi, focused on AUSSOM’s mandate and the critical security efforts in Somalia, emphasizing the importance of aligning with UNSC Resolution 2767, which outlines the transition process and the gradual handover of security responsibilities to Somali forces.

This engagement underscores the necessity of continued partnership with Troop Contributing Countries (TCCs) to ensure a smooth and effective transition, ultimately supporting Somalia’s long-term security and stability.

AUSSOM’s commitment to working with all stakeholders reflects the broader international community’s dedication to fostering peace and development in Somalia.
