Souef Mohamed El-Amine held talks with Vincent Bamulangaki Ssempijja on the role that Uganda can and should play in stabilizing Somalia.
El-Amine, the Special Representative of the Chairperson of the African Union Commission (SRCC), met with Ssempijja on Wednesday.
Ssempijja is Uganda’s Minister of Defense and Veteran Affairs.
El-Amine, who is also the ATMIS Head, discussed the withdrawal of the ATMIS troops in Somalia. ATMIS has reduced the number of its troops in Somalia by over 5,000 since last year.
ATMIS is expected to pull out of Somalia completely by December 31, 2024.
