The Chairman of the Federal Indirect Elections Team (FIET) has accused regional states of interfering with the forthcoming parliamentary polls.
Mohamed Irro, the FIET Chairman, accused the Federal Member States (FMS) of being behind the differences seen between the membership of Federal Electoral Committee.
Irro hasn’t named the specific regional state leaders who are behind the current situation, though.
His comments come hot on the heels of recent announcement by some stakeholders that the new electoral regulations violate agreed electoral practices.
While addressing the media over these claims, Irro said that all members endorsed the new regulations with the exception of only one of them.
Each regional state has two seats at FIET.
Further, they each have the same number of seats at the Federal Elections Conflict Resolution Mechanism.
