Elections for the new leadership of the House of the People (Lower House) kicked off late on Wednesday night.
Legislators gathered on the morning of April 27 but were only able to start electing their Speaker and Deputy Speakers at night.
There had been fears that the police would not guarantee the security of the legislators taking part in the elections.
The process was earmarked for Afiyosini near the Halane Base Camp in Mogadishu.
Prime Minister Mohamed Hussein Roble held daylong meetings with several stakeholders to find solutions for the process.
