Elections to Blame for Increased COVID-19 Infections in Puntland

The recent elections that took place in Puntland are the main cause of the increased COVID-19 infections in the regional state.

Dr. Jama Mohamed, Puntland’s Minister of Health, announced this on November 7.

The minister cited the local government elections that Puntland held in three districts around two weeks ago.

Thousands of voters lined up to exercise their democratic right in last month’s historic elections.

Nevertheless, Dr. Mohamed failed to provide further details on the exact figures.

He warned residents to watch out for increased COVID-19 infections now that the cold season is here.

According to the latest figures from Somalia’s health ministry, Puntland’s 313 COVID-19 cases were the second highest in the country in October.
