Health officials in Somaliland announced that the country has confirmed 11 new cases of COVID-19, the pandemic that has brought the world to its knees.
Dr. Mohamed Abdi Hergeye, the Director General in the Ministry of Health, announced the new numbers on Saturday.
The country reported these new cases after announcing that it was now conducting all COVID-19 tests internally.
A national laboratory that the government has set up tested a second batch of samples received from people thought to be displaying symptoms associated with the virulent disease.
According to Director General Hergeye, all the new cases are in Hargeisa.
The news comes a day after the country reported 11 other cases in diverse places such as Hargeisa, Buroa, Yufle, and Borama.
Dr. Hergeye said the new cases are of people aged between 20 and 50 years. He announced that one more person had succumbed to the disease bringing to four the total deaths too.
