The federal Minister of Environment and Climate Change has commended the residents of a village in Kismayo for banning the cutting down of trees.
Minister Khadija Mohamed Al-Makhzumi commended the residents of Qaam-Qaam village in Kismayo for banning the cutting of trees.
The village is in Kismayo.
Al-Makhzumi visited the village on December 12 for a series of meetings with different groups and individuals.
She commended the elders, women, and youths of the village for heeding the ban.
The minister praised them for the tremendous job and rare act they did and took to save the environment.
The ban on cutting trees is timely considering the suffering Somalis in the country have endured the past few years as rains fall and drought devastates every part of the land.
