Mayor Ismail Haji Nur of Erigavo has been accused of fueling animosities in Waqdari by a traditional leader in the region.
According to the leader, Sultan Bashir Ahmed Du’ale, Mayor Nur is responsible for the skirmishes that have erupted in Waqdari area in the recent past.
Sultan Bashir said, “We traveled to the region and spent three months there trying to solve the conflicts that had erupted in the region.”
According to Sultan Bashir, the evidence shows that the skirmishes started when Mayor Nur ordered the construction of a Mother and Child Health Center to stop forthwith.
Furthermore, he says that Mayor Nur commanded the militia, who had been asked to leave the region, not to do so.
Consequently, Sultan Bashir avers that Mayor Nur should be held accountable for the fighting that has flared up Waqdari.
