Ethiopia Announces Plans to Send an Ambassador to Somalia

Ethiopia has announced plans to improve its diplomatic relations with Somaliland by sending a full ambassador to the country.

The news emerged yesterday from Somaliland’s Office of the President.

Ethiopia’s plans come hot on the heels of the recent visit to Hargeisa by an Egyptian delegation comprising top military officers and diplomats.

Currently, Egypt and Ethiopia are not in good terms after the latter announced plans to set up the Grand Ethiopian Renaissance Dam along River Nile.

The construction of the dam has created a diplomatic crisis between Egypt and Ethiopia and now threatens to rope in all of their neighbors in the region.

Last week, Ethiopia sent its Minister of Finance to Hargeisa for a meeting with President Muse Bihi Abdi of Somaliland.

Ethiopia’s plan to station its Ambassador in Hargeisa is a win for Somaliland, which has been craving international recognition for decades.

Moreover, Ethiopia now becomes the second country in the last two months to station a diplomat in Hargeisa after Taiwan.
