Ethiopia Asks IGAD to Postpone Summit on Row with Somalia

Ethiopia has reportedly asked the Intergovernmental Authority on Development (IGAD) to postpone the extraordinary summit called to discuss the country’s row with Somalia.

IGAD called for the meeting in Kampala on January 18, 2024.

Member states are to discuss the diplomatic row between Ethiopia and Somalia which is the result of the agreement the former signed with Somaliland on January 1.

Somalia feels that Ethiopia erred by signing the deal with Somaliland.

In Somalia’s views, Ethiopia does not respect its sovereignty, unity, and territorial integrity.

IGAD President Ismail Omar Guelleh of Djibouti convened the meeting, which Uganda’s President Yoweri Museveni already agreed to host.
