Ethiopia purchased 20 metric tons of fish from Somalia during a recent trade expo, authorities have confirmed.
With the peak season on, the news augurs well for Somalia.
The purchase of 20 metric tons could increase the demand for Somali fish by as much as 100 percent in the next few months.
Meanwhile, the United States Embassy in Somalia confirmed that United States Agency for International Development (USAID) is working with the two nations to ease trade barriers.
The US, which confirmed Ethiopia’s purchase of Somali fish, said that USAID would also help both nations deal with the tariffs and regulations that make trade impossible between them.
