The government of Ethiopia has denied reports that it recruited soldiers from Somalia in its clashes with Tigray rebels last year.
Over the past two weeks, media reports have emerged accusing the Federal Government of Somalia (FGS) of sending young Somalis to Eritrea for military training.
Afterward, the reports indicate that the young Somalis joined Ethiopia’s fight with Somalia.
Last week, a former Deputy Director of the National Intelligence and Security Agency (NISA) said that over 370 young Somali soldiers lost their lives in the Tigray clashes.
On January 21, the Ethiopian government, through the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, denied reports that such an incidence took place.
Dina Mufti, the foreign affairs ministry’s spokesperson, called such claims “false and unfounded.”
