Ethiopia Excluded from New AU Mission in Somalia

Somalia’s announcement at the United Nations Security Council meeting highlights a significant development in its security landscape.

By securing 11,000 personnel for the new African Union Support and Stabilization Mission (AUSSOM), through bilateral agreements, Somalia is taking proactive steps to transition to a more self-reliant and regionally supported security framework.

The exclusion of Ethiopia from the new mission is a notable shift, possibly influenced by ongoing tensions and Somalia’s desire to assert greater control over its internal security arrangements.

This move aligns with Somalia’s broader efforts to strengthen sovereignty and manage regional dynamics effectively.
