Ethiopia has written to the Intergovernmental Authority on Development (IGAD) requesting for an extraordinary meeting to discuss its row with Somalia.
The nation was unable to attend the extraordinary meeting that IGAD convened on January 18, 2024 in Uganda on the same matter.
While stating its inability to attend, Ethiopia cited prior commitments and inadequate time to prepare for the meeting.
However, this week, Ethiopia expressed willingness to meet with IGAD to explain the reasons for the Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) it signed with Somaliland.
The MoU is the genesis of its diplomatic row with Somalia. The row threatens to evolve into war with Somalia stating that it would use all means necessary to protect its sovereignty.
In a letter written through the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Ethiopia requested IGAD to hold the meeting at the earliest time possible.
