Ethiopia Shuts Land Border While Deploying Troops to Combat Coronavirus

The administration of Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed has announced the closure of all land borders around the country.

In a statement released from the Addis Ababa, the Prime Minister further stated that the government will deploy its troops to help fight the further spread of Coronavirus in the country.

Ethiopia has confirmed 11 Coronavirus cases. The pandemic has shaken the world to its roots, interfered with travel, brought global economy to its feet, and killed tens of thousands.

However, the Office of the Prime Minister clarified that the border close does not affect transportation of essential goods to and from Ethiopia.

In the statement, Prime Minister’s Abiy office said that some government departments will have to embrace work from home plans.

PM Abiy also asked Ethiopians to adhere to social distancing protocols to limit the spread of COVID-19.
