Ethiopia to Import Oil Through Somaliland’s Berbera Port

Ethiopia’s Director General of the Department of Petroleum Research and Production announced that the government will soon begin importing oil through the international port of Berbera in Somaliland.

According to the DG, this decision follows challenges Ethiopia has faced in obtaining oil through Djibouti, a smaller neighboring country.

Traditionally, Djibouti served as Ethiopia’s primary access point to global trade and oil imports.

This shift to Berbera’s port highlights the increasing significance of the port as a regional hub and could enhance Ethiopia’s energy supply chain, diversifying its logistical routes for critical imports.

Furthermore, the decision affirms the determination of Ethiopia to actualise the agreement signed with Somaliland earlier this year.
