Ethiopia now has a fully operational embassy in Hargeisa.
On May 18, Somaliland President Muse Bihi Abdi assured the public that Ethiopia planned to upgrade its consular office in Hargeisa to a full-fledged embassy.
He said this while leading Somaliland in celebrations held to commemorate its National Day.
Now, Somaliland’s Minister of Information, Culture, and National Guidance confirms that indeed Hargeisa hosts a full-fledged Ethiopian embassy.
Information minister Ali Hassan Mohamed Marehaan welcomed the embassy.
He added that the move indicates that the memorandum of understanding (MoU) signed between Somaliland and Ethiopia this year on January 1 will proceed unhindered.
